Motivational talk for parents of classes VI to XII on Positive Parenting
On World Mental Health Day,10 th October 2020, Birla High School arranged a motivational talk for parents of classes VI to XII on Positive Parenting in These Challenging Times through a webinar. The speaker was Mrs. Salony Priya, a renowned counselling psychologist working in the area of education management, human development and training, student and teacher empowerment, parental guidance and comprehensive counselling. Mrs. Loveleen Saigal, Principal, Birla High School welcomed the speaker and acknowledged parents as co-educators urging them to be ‘warriors and not worriers’ in this trying period. Thereafter Mrs. Priya spoke about the importance of mental health, wellness for families and developing life skills to cope with and adapt to this unique scenario and stressed on ‘positive psychology’ as a coping mechanism. She shared tips and insights on positive parenting specifically to fight the ‘pandemic blues’ and spoke about the role of ‘happy hormones’ for the child’s overall well-being. Mrs. Priya pointed out that the new normal demands a new ‘you’ wherein one needs to develop new habits, new skills and discover new techniques. The parents participated actively in the webinar and asked some very pertinent questions related to the mental health of their children which the speaker took great care to answer. The one-and-a-half-hour programme was concluded by the emcee, Mrs Kasturi Banerjee with a vote of thanks and a solidarity prayer for the pandemic.
