  • Birla High school along with Kolkata Police started a rally on 23/06/2017 at 10.00 am to create an awareness among the common people against drug addiction in the surrounding locality. The rally was initiated by Kolkata Traffic Police. It was organised by Kolkata Police and was promoted by Safety Awareness Institute, courtesy, Indian Oil. It was encouraging and heartening to see Police Sergeant Mr. Chinmoy Mishra, Sub- Inspector Mr. Hirak Dalapati and Sub- Inspector Mr. Rajkumar Mishra of Shakespere Sarani Police Station walking with our boys. The rally started from our school gate at 1, Moira Street and moved through Minto Park, A J C Bose Street, Loudon Street, Shakespere Sarani and then back to Moira Street. Our students displayed the cataclysmic effects of drug addiction through banners and posters and wearing caps with anti drug slogans.

     


    Inter-house Debate

    The students of classes IX and X witnessed an epic battle of words at the inter-house debate competition, held at Vidya Mandir Auditorium on the 30th  of June, 2017. The event was chaired by Abhirup Manna, an excellent MUNer and Orator himself.  The motion for the day was, “Television is not an effective tool in building the minds of children.” The Best Speaker award went to Jai Suryank Purwar of Pratap House, who was standing strongly against the motion. Aman Desai of Tagore House was adjudged the Best Q-Panelist and Pratap House emerged victorious, winning the Best House Award.

    For classes XI & XII , the participants exhibited their skills on the topic "Money motivates people more than any other factor in the world".Gandhi house was declared as the best team and Abhirup Manna of Pratap house was given the recognition of the best speaker. Aalekh Roychowdhury of Gandhi House was adjudged the best Q-Panelist   

     


    Investiture Ceremony

    The Investiture Ceremony was held on 28th June 2017 with a lot of enthusiasm and fanfare. Students who were nominated to different posts to assist the teachers in the smooth functioning of school machinery relating to discipline, interhouse activities, co-ordination between houses etc were formally honoured with badges. It was a ceremony of great honour and prestige, where parents of holders were also invited to make them feel a part of the faith and honour reposed on their wards.

     The awardees each received a 5 gram gold biscuit embedded in a silver medallion, the monetary value of which is Rs. 27000/- each. The Birla High School stars of the session also received book coupons sponsored by Birla High School Alumni, worth Rs.2000/- each from Starmark.


    World Environment Day, the 5th June, was celebrated at the prayer hall of Birla High School in Kolkata, on Thursday, the 29th June, 2017, through A Special Assembly.The young students of the Middle School belonging to all sections of Classes VI, VII and VIII were reminded of the importance of sapling plantation.
    Eco-friendly posters were put up by a group of enthusiastic students with jingles, songs and speeches. The focus was on making the Environment cool and green; - for the air purification project.

    ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR PARENTS OF CLASSES IX and X  22ND JUNE 2017

    An orientation programme was organized by Birla High School for its parents and students on 22nd June 2017 in the Vidya Mandir auditorium from 8 am. The sole thrust of the programme was to familiarize the participants with the changes introduced by the CBSE in class IX and X examination pattern from the session 2017-2018.The orientation was initiated by our Principal Ms. Mukta Nain. She welcomed and thanked the parents for their presence. Ms. Kakoli Guha  explained  the new changes in the CBSE examination pattern.  The slides of the presentation was prepared by Ms Ritika Gupta.

     


    INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

    The 21st of June Wednesday 2017 is being celebrated as the International Yoga day throughout the world. The boys of Birla High School from Classes VI & VII have been showcasing a part of the core essence of Patanjali’s 8 fold path of Yog or Astanga Yog that focuses on healthy living. The activity focuses on the age-old Indian values of meditation with great enthusiasm ; - for concentration development and perfect health.
