  • THE E- WASTE COLLECTION DRIVE

    The school was a part of the E- waste collection drive which was organized by The Hulladek , a company which rightly tags itself to be hungry for e-waste (Hulladek is eastern India’s only authorized electronic waste management company)from 15th  to 30th April . E- waste or WEEE( Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) comprises of electronic appliances or accessories that are rejected due to malfunction or have become obsolete but  when disposed carelessly can be hazardous to nature. So Hulladek held an awareness programme followed by an E- waste collection drive involving both the students and the faculty. The collection drive continued for a fortnight generating considerable amount of wastes.


    INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH MR. MALAYA KHANDELWAL

    Students of Std IX to XII attended an interactive session with Mr. Malaya Khandelwal on 25 April 2017, on problem solving and critical thinking Mr. Khandelwal is an alumunus of the school and felt tremendously connected to the students of Birla High School . He had undergone a four year undergraduate programme in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras. A Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He was awarded a grant from National Science Foundation, USA, to work on self deployable structures for space. Mr. Khandelwal suggested students to look for excellence in whatever they do and focus on the future of human race. The youth should be made aware of the importance of logic.The initial exposure to it would be in the form of solving puzzles. It is very important that we are able to grasp our logical thinking. Students should get exposed to artificial learning as everything will get replaced except emotion and kindness.

     


     

    ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR CLASS XI  2017-2018

    The Orientation Programme for the class XI students for the session 2017-2018 was held at the Vidya Mandir Auditorium on 22 April 2017. Principal Ms. Mukta Nain, accompanied by Ms. Suparna Mukherjee, coordinator for class XI and XII, Ms. Joyeeta Majumdar, career counsellor addressed the gathering briefing them in details about the plus two section. The importance of attendance, punctuality, the weightage for each exam, mentoring and contact classes and the ultimate choice of careers were some of the many important points that were highlighted. Finally, Ms. Payel Lohia spoke to students and parents on the procedure to make registration and purchase of books online.


    JAPANESE VISIT

    Japanese Vice Consul General of Kolkata Ms.Manami Kato's visit to our school on 12th April. An interactive and informative session was held with the boys about the lifestyle, culture, history and geography of Japan to increase the knowledge and the children's self morale.


    US UNIVERSITY REPRESENTATIVES VISIT BHS

    On 10th April, 2017 a delegation representing 8 US universities visited Birla High School to address the senior students on the prospects of higher education in North America. The speakers represented universities like Michigan State University, Georgia State University, Colgate University, New York Film Academy, Savannah College of Art and Design, Slippery Rock University, Stony Brook University and University of Colorado Boulder. They spoke of the courses that are offered in their universities and divulged various other facts pertaining to their respective alma maters. Later, the students had an opportunity for individual interaction with the university representatives. It was indeed an enriching experience for all the students, who attended it, widening their field of view infinitely. The session left the students with much required wisdom and an insight into the global education scenario.

    EARTH DAY

    A special assembly was held in the senior school to commemorate Earth Day. This was in collaboration with Earth Day Network as part of their school's assembly competition. The students sang jingles in praise of Mother Earth and suggested what we can do to protect Mother Earth for future generations. the future generations.

    INVESTITURE CEREMONY

    Middle School (VI-VIII) had organised The Investiture Ceremony on 06th April, 2017 for the session 2017-18.
